Bonnie LeBeau, Quilts
OCTOBER 4 - DECEMBER 1, 2003 The artistry
of the star quilt was first introduced to the Lakota
people by missionaries in the late 1800’s. Popularity
of the quilts among the Lakota led to the replacement
of the sacred buffalo robe in various ceremonies and
special occasions. Since its initiation into tribal
life, Lakota artisans have adapted the design, creating
an enduring symbol synonymous with Lakota culture.
