Southern Plains Indian Museum, Anadarko, Oklahoma

Previous Exhibition:

Cynthia Clay

"Life is Sweet on the Edge of a Razor"

FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 29, 2006

"My art is what I do. It has been, is and will be the best way that I can communicate. I do not always know what it is that I am saying. It is something that cannot be communicated in words. The viewer sometimes can tell more what the artwork is about than I."

The Southern Plains Indian Museum became acquainted with Cynthia Clay and her artwork when she agreed to participate in the 2005 Summer Group Exhibition at the Museum. Her work was so unique and unlike any other artwork that has been shown at the Museum. Viewers are drawn to her works and may not come away exactly sure of what they have seen but pleased to have seen it. There is a lot to look at in her paintings; textures, fine scratched lines, bold color and the story that lies beneath the surface of her paintings. The exhibition of Cynthia Clay's artwork is a breakout exhibition for the Southern Plains Indian Museum into the truly contemporary and surreal expressions of an artist.
